In the aftermath of the devastating Eaton fire, which affected many families and staff in the Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD), California First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom visited the students and staff of Altadena Arts Magnet Elementary School—temporarily housed at Allendale Elementary School—earlier this week, alongside PUSD Superintendent Dr. Elizabeth Blanco.

During the visit, First Partner Siebel Newsom and Dr. Blanco spent time with students, teachers, and staff, listening to their stories and challenges in the weeks since the fire. The First Partner’s presence served as a powerful reminder of the critical role that community and state support play in times of crisis, offering both encouragement and solidarity to those still navigating the emotional and practical aftermath.
“The students, faculty, and staff of Altadena Arts Magnet have faced immense challenges in the wake of the fires in LA, yet their resilience and dedication to their school community are truly inspiring,” said First Partner Siebel Newsom. “I’m especially grateful to the teachers—many of whom have been displaced themselves—who are creating stability for their students, using social-emotional learning tools to help them process their trauma and begin to heal. Such a beautiful example of the California Love, California Strong spirit we’ve seen in LA throughout this crisis.”
“We are truly grateful for First Partner Siebel Newsom’s visit,” said Dr. Blanco. “Her genuine care for our students and employees was deeply moving. This visit was more than just a moment of support – it is a reminder of the unwavering strength of our community and the incredible help we’ve received from both local and state leaders. Together, we will continue to provide the care and resources our school communities need as they recover.”
The visit also underscored the vital role that education plays as a stabilizing force during times of adversity, offering students a sense of normalcy and security as they confront ongoing challenges and work to rebuild their lives.
