Immigration enforcement operations carried out on Friday, June 6, by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Los Angeles have drawn swift reactions from county officials, with concerns raised over the impact on local communities and the transparency of federal actions.

According to statements issued by Los Angeles County leadership, ICE conducted raids in several neighborhoods including downtown Los Angeles, Westlake, Cypress Park, and the Skid Row area, home to one of the city’s most vulnerable populations.
“These immigration sweeps across the First District are deeply disturbing,” said Los Angeles County Chair Pro Tem and First District Supervisor Hilda L. Solis. “The individuals detained are hardworking Angelenos who contribute to our local economy and labor force every day.” Solis criticized the raids as inconsistent with prior federal assurances, citing concerns that “innocent hardworking people” were being targeted rather than criminals.
Solis also condemned ICE’s presence in Skid Row, calling it “horrifying” and “an attempt to intimidate” vulnerable residents. She reaffirmed the County’s support for immigrant communities and encouraged those affected to remain calm and seek support through the Office of Immigrant Affairs and local nonprofit organizations.
Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Chair Kathryn Barger also responded, stating that while she supports the enforcement of federal laws, it is crucial that such actions are carried out with “transparency, fairness, and respect for the rights and dignity of all individuals.”
“My priority remains the safety and well-being of all residents of Los Angeles County,” Barger added.
The ICE activity has raised tensions and concerns among residents, especially in immigrant-heavy neighborhoods. Community organizers and advocacy groups have reportedly begun mobilizing to offer legal and humanitarian assistance to those impacted.
More information is expected to emerge as officials continue to monitor developments.
