GUEST OPINION
Recently, I had the privilege of visiting Hudson Oaks, a beautiful and affordable housing project for seniors aged 62 and over, located in historic Pasadena.

Hudson Oaks is an inspiring example of affordable housing done right, placing the care and needs of the community it serves front and center. Touring this apartment complex was truly an awe-inspiring experience. The level of privacy and autonomy provided to our most vulnerable community members is remarkable.
With so many seniors living on fixed incomes, the rising cost of housing and lack of affordable options are forcing many into homelessness at an alarming rate. Having worked in the nonprofit sector for over 15 years, I have seen firsthand how the housing crisis impacts seniors. Hudson Oaks, however, offers hope, with thoughtful amenities designed to support and engage its residents, including a computer station, a tranquil courtyard with a BBQ area, a resident center, and direct access to Washington Park.
These amenities are more than conveniences; they actively combat social isolation, a pressing issue faced by many seniors. Hudson Oaks creates a space where community can flourish.
I am a strong advocate for affordable housing because it offers people not just temporary shelter but opportunity for healing and growth through stability and dignity as they age. Hudson Oaks is a meaningful step in the right direction toward ending homelessness, and it stands as a testament to what we can achieve when we prioritize the community that it serves. We need more and we need it now.
