Henry Kissinger and Me!

The news of Henry Kissinger’s death yesterday (Wednesday) reminded me of a phrase I like to think is true: great minds think alike.

When my son graduated from Yale, the ceremony was ruined for me by the main speech being so long and boring that I kept saying to myself “Come on, come on, get on with it.” It turned out I was speaking not only to myself, however.

My ex-wife told me afterwards the occasion was ruined for her because my comments were audible to everyone around her. Chastened, I then asked my mother if she’d enjoyed it. Yes, she said, but it would have been better if Henry Kissinger, sitting behind her, hadn’t kept saying over and over, “Come on, come on, get on with it.”
