Pasadena Public Library invites the Pasadena community to help decorate the construction fence surrounding Central Library during their upcoming earthquake retrofit and repair project. The contest is open to all who live, work, or attend school in Pasadena and/or the Pasadena Unified School District.
By News Desk
Artwork submissions can feature your favorite library, book, or book character. The artwork will be displayed on the fence and later in an exhibit space when the library reopens. Designs can be about anything related to the library, Pasadena, literature, or the Pasadena community. Possible themes include reading your favorite book, learning together at the library, favorite Pasadena library memories, the library of the future, or any other library-related topic.
About the design
All artistic mediums are accepted, but the design must be a flat image. The library encourages the use of bright pens, markers, or paint and recommend using saturated, opaque colors for ease of production and to ensure your artwork is crisp, bright, and visible.
Submissions must use only one side of the paper. Paper size can range from 8 1/2” x 11” to 11” x 17.” Images should be in portrait orientation (with the short side of the paper at the top and bottom).
Entry deadline
The entry deadline is Wednesday, April 30, 2025. You can submit your illustration by dropping it off at any Pasadena Public Library branch during open hours with the submission form attached, or by submitting your digital illustration through the online entry form at at this link. Digital illustrations must be submitted via the online form by the deadline. (Illustrations will be reproduced for display. Submissions must be the applicant’s original work, and a completed and signed entry form must be attached to physical submissions or submitted online.) Original artwork will be returned to participants following the Grand Reopening of Central Library.
A selection panel will review the submitted entries and choose the finalists to feature. For questions regarding the Art on the Fence project, contact Catherine Hany at Chany@CityofPasadena.net.
