        List of Greater Pasadena’s Socially Distanced Heat Relief Centers

      a group of birds over sunsetWith temperatures in parts of Los Angeles County expected to rise into the triple digits, various public facilities will serve as Emergency Cooling Centers providing residents who lack air conditioning at home with relief from the heat, free of charge.

      All Centers will require visitors to bring a face covering to wear at all times. Staff and visitors will also be required to maintain a distance of at least six feet between one another. Exceptions will be made for individuals living in the same household. The centers will not be open for recreational activity.

      Pasadena

      Robinson Park
      1081 North Fair Oaks Avenue
      Pasadena, CA 91003
      Friday, September 4 through Monday, September 7
      9:00 am – 6:00 pm.
      The center can accommodate up to 50 people.

      Sierra Madre

      Hart Park House
      222 W. Sierra Madre Blvd.
      Sierra Madre, CA 91024
      Saturday, September 5 and Sunday, September 6
      12:00 pm – 6:00 pm.
      The center can accommodate up to 16 people.

      South Pasadena

      War Memorial Building

      Friday, September 4 through Monday, September 7
      12:00 pm – 6:00 pm.
      The Cooling center can hold up to 38 people.

      San Marino

      Crowell Public Library

      San Gabriel

      Heat safety tips

      • Keep hydrated; water is your best choice!
      • Wear lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing.
      • If you must be outdoors, seek shade, apply sunscreen, and wear a hat or use an umbrella.
      • Call to check on your elderly family members and friends.
      • Bring pets indoors and make sure they have plenty of water too.
      • Never leave a child or pet unattended in a vehicle.

      Flex Alert

      The California Independent System Operator (ISO) has issued a statewide Flex Alert, a call for voluntary electricity conservation, beginning Saturday and extending through Monday, from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

      Water safety tips

      • Never take your eyes off a child when they are in or near any body of water.
      • Don’t rely on inflatable devices to keep your child afloat.
      • Remove toys, tricycles, or other playthings from the water and away from the pool or spa.
      • Keep a life-saving ring, shepherd’s hook and CPR instructions at poolside.

      Fire safety tips

      • Have working smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors in each level of your home.
      • Have two escape routes out of your home and practice with your family.
      • Clear leaves and other debris from roofs, gutters, and decks.
      • Have a “Ready, Set, Go” kit in your home. Establish a meeting place for your family in the event of a fire.
