The shed, used to store the garden’s tools, supplies, and automated irrigation system, was largely destroyed. The cause of the fire remains unknown.
A swift response from the South Pasadena and Pasadena Fire Departments, who were alerted by nearby residents, quickly contained the fire before it could spread. The surrounding areas, including the garden’s climate-appropriate plantings, were mostly untouched and showed remarkable resilience.
“We are incredibly grateful to our neighbors and the fire crews for their fast action,” said representatives from Arlington Garden.
In the aftermath, the garden has been temporarily closed, and upcoming programs have been postponed as a safety precaution. Cleanup and damage assessments are underway, and safety remains the top priority.
Visitors are urged to respect barriers and avoid entering the garden while it remains closed. Updates on reopening, the impacts of the fire, and how the community can support recovery efforts will be shared soon.
A GoFundMe Page has been created to help Arlington Garden rebuild its storage shed and reopen.
