The Los Angeles County Health Department is offering free blood lead testing to help residents understand their potential exposure to lead and take proactive steps to protect their health.
By News Desk
Since the initiative launched, Public Health has screened more than 1,500 adults and children. Encouragingly, only seven individuals have tested above the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) blood lead reference value (BLRV) of 3.5 micrograms per deciliter (µg/dL), indicating that the vast majority of participants have not shown elevated lead levels.
Public Health will host one final walk-in community testing event on Friday, June 27, 2025, at the Altadena Community Center, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. All residents from fire-affected areas are encouraged to participate. English and Spanish-speaking representatives will be available for media interviews.
Although this is the final in-person community event, free blood lead testing will continue through December 2025 via the following options:
- Visit Your Medical Provider:
Ask your doctor for a blood lead test. Most insurance plans, including Medi-Cal, cover the cost. - Schedule a Test at Quest Diagnostics:
Call 1-800-LA-4-LEAD to book a free and confidential appointment.
