“The 1920s was a busy decade for the city. A boom in civic building shifted the focus downtown east along Colorado Street, with new civic institutions such as the city hall and public library opening in a new City Center district,” states the introduction to a just-posted virtual exhibition on Flickr.

Pasadena in the 1920s. is an exhibit of forty photographs, curated by Pasadena Museum of History’s Outreach Intern Grant Holt under the guidance of Museum staff. The photos are drawn from the online collections of the member organizations of the Pasadena Digital History Collaboration (PDHC).
“Our collaborative Flickr exhibits are a unique way to bring together images from multiple institutions that relate to the same topic,” notes PMH Registrar & Collections Manager, Michelle Turner, a founding committee member of the PDHC. “Since the beginning of the pandemic, PMH has curated four such exhibits. For this most recent offering, we thought it would be fun to focus on a time when Pasadena was booming 100 years ago, especially since many of the iconic structures that were built in the 1920s – such as the civic center and the Rose Bowl stadium – are still standing today. Our intern was able to put together the exhibit from the safety of his home because the entire PDHC database, with more than 50,000 records, is all available online at pasadenadigitalhistory.com.”
