Join Teaching Artist Diane Williams for a Natural Dyeing Workshop focusing on the eco-printing technique of flower pounding.

This sustainable practice uses leaves and flowers to create vibrant patterns on fabric. Discover the historical and cultural aspects of natural dyeing, connecting with indigenous practices. Natural dyes, derived from plants and minerals, offer eco-friendly alternatives, avoiding harmful components found in synthetic dyes. Diane will share her connection to Filipino culture, where pigments from nature hold symbolic and medicinal importance.

The workshop will involve hands-on flower pounding with pre-mordanted fabric provided. Participants will delve into plant-based dye processes. Activities include pigment extraction, understanding material interactions with natural fibers, and incorporating eco-printing for transferring flower pigments.

This event is free and open to all ages. Registration is not required.
