Enjoy a new concert series, Centering Sounds, where all those impacted by the fires and the community at large gather for a twilight series of concerts in the park, creating a sense of belonging, healing, and mindfulness through music.

These concerts are open to all. Concerts will be held outdoors at Pasadena’s Washington Park, with provided chair seating on the grass. There is limited parking in the lot plus ample street parking. All concerts are from 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm.

• September 10: African & Latin American Rhythms by Earthseed

  The Earthseed Band is a collective of musicians formed through the world music initiatives of the Soul Force Project in Altadena. Reflecting the diverse cultural background of the community, the band brings together musical influences from folk, popular, and jazz music. They are inspired by rhythms from South Asia, Africa, and Latin America with songs that inspire positive change, empowerment, and creative expression. Earthseed is inspired by Octavia Butler’s vision of new community built out of the ruins of the old, one which affirms the value of each member in a collective emergence of unity in diversity.

  How does one categorize an artist who during their career has sung for Barbra Streisand’s wedding; performed at countless functions for people such as Steven Spielberg, the cast of The Soprano’s and the late Sonny Bono; played harmonica and scat rapped alongside Salt n’ Pepa on Quincy Jones’ TV show Vibe, and has had the likes of Bonnie Raitt, Eddie Van Halen and Jerry Lee Lewis, among countless others, join him on-stage for impromptu jam sessions? Preston Smith was featured on the hit movie soundtrack “Cocktail” starring Tom Cruise with the title song “Oh I Love You So,” which he composed, produced, and performed. He and his band performed on the hit TV show Star Search; Roseanne Cash then recorded his song “Black and White,” and it was a hit on the country radio charts. Preston’s latest CD, “Blue Skies For A Rainy Day” showcases a mix of his original songs across various genres. Produced and released on his own label, often performing all instruments or recording live with his band. Preston has performed on many live radio and cable TV shows on both the east and west coasts, and has performed live on club circuits in Los Angeles, New York, and Nashville. His multifaceted talent has enabled him, both with his band and solo acoustic, to share stages with a diverse crowd of performers.

  Ann Louise started her piano studies when she was six at the Marguerite Hoffman Studios in Rochester, Minnesota. After 12 years of classical training, she expanded her repertoire to include standards and pop music. Ms. Christensen has a BA from the University of Minnesota and studied songwriting at the Grove School of Music in Los Angeles. She is a current member of ASCAP, American Federation of Musicians (Local 47) and National Music Teachers Association. She has worked extensively in Japan, Europe, Scandinavia, and the Caribbean, as well as major cities throughout the United States.
