California has long stood as a bulwark of democracy, innovation, and fairness. Proposition 50, the Election Rigging Response Act, is not a perfect solution, but it is a necessary one. We endorse a Yes vote on Prop 50 because it is a principled and strategic response to an urgent national threat: the manipulation of congressional maps for political gain.

Early this year, Texas Republicans aggressively redrew district lines to entrench power, silence opposition, and erode democratic norms. This kind of partisan gerrymandering doesn’t just affect Texas; it distorts national representation, warps policy priorities, and punishes voters in states like California, where fairer maps prevail.
Prop 50 gives California the tools to fight back. By temporarily adjusting our own congressional maps to balance the national playing field, we send a clear message: we will not be passive while democracy is undermined elsewhere. This measure is not about vengeance., It is about leverage, accountability, and preserving the principle of one person, one vote.
Critics will say California should always take the high road. We agree. But taking the high road doesn’t mean standing still while others bulldoze the road. Prop 50 allows us to act, not out of spite, but out of duty to a broader democratic ideal. This is not a red state vs. blue state issue. It is a democracy vs. dysfunction issue. Voting Yes on Prop 50 is an affirmation that California will not be a bystander in the face of coordinated electoral manipulation.
Let’s make our voices—and our values—count. Vote Yes on Proposition 50.
