“Who’s going to match our freak?” asked the Doo Dah Parade announcement, which includes a link to fill out your entry.
Are you a homemade conveyance, art car, mutant vehicle, living room furniture, eccentric marching band, rockin’ band, performance artist, cornball, show-stopper, hoofer or crooner, pundit, anachronist, believer or nonbeliever, fantasist, surrealist, Dadaist, space traveler, time traveler, absurdist, weirdo, type A, type B, type C, campy schtick, satirist, or country western hick? Then this Parade is for you!
The first Pasadena Doo Dah Parade took place on January 1, 1978. The parade was created by regulars at Chromo’s Bar and Grill in Old Pasadena who noticed people camping out for the Rose Parade and wanted to entertain them with an alternative parade. The idea was to create a one-time event with a meaningless name, but the parade was well-received and has become a tradition.
On Doo Dah day, the street will swell with a cast of local eccentrics, dissenters, pundits, lone wolfs, steam punks, and merrymakers. Popular food trucks will be selling tasty treats at food stands along the parade route.
- Come early, bring a lawn chair.
- Visit the local eateries and shops, and
- Attend the after-parties, all within walking distance.
The Parade will be Doo Dah’ing rain or shine!
