In a continued effort to restore normalcy following the Eaton Fire, Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) has successfully reopened more schools as part of its phased reopening plan.

On Monday, January 27, over 5,000 students returned to school, including those from Field Elementary, Washington Elementary STEM Magnet, Madison Elementary, Norma Coombs Elementary, and two children’s centers, Jefferson and Washington. The day was filled with emotion, as students reunited with friends, teachers, and staff in what can only be described as a heartwarming return to school.
The mood was uplifting, with hugs, smiles, and the occasional tear, as the school communities took the first steps toward healing. Teachers, administrators, and staff greeted each other with warmth and support, while parents and families found comfort in the strength of their shared experience. To support the ongoing recovery, activities focused on coping with crisis are being integrated into students’ routines, alongside the presence of additional mental health professionals on campuses.
Three Schools to Reopen Wednesday, Jan. 29
Looking ahead, three more schools are set to open on Wednesday, January 29:
- Don Benito Elementary,
- Sierra Madre Elementary, and
- Sierra Madre Middle School.
These campuses have undergone thorough cleaning and sanitization processes and have been inspected by third-party environmental consultants. Reports from these inspections will be available on the PUSD website beginning Tuesday, January 28.
