Pasadena Water and Power (PWP) will resume essential upgrades to underground electrical vaults at various locations throughout the city. This work is part of a long-term initiative to enhance the reliability and resilience of Pasadena’s electric system.
By News Desk
Construction will occur intermittently through November 2025, pause during December 2025, and resume in January 2026, with completion anticipated by June 2026.
As part of this effort, PWP will upgrade electrical vaults along Del Mar Boulevard, between Fair Oaks Avenue and San Gabriel Boulevard, as well as portions of East Colorado Boulevard. In total, the work will involve approximately 30 electrical vaults across 4.5 miles of the Public Right of Way. Construction will begin on Del Mar Boulevard, between Chester Avenue and Hill Avenue. No work will be performed during the holiday season or during citywide construction moratorium periods.
This project also supports the integration of renewable energy sources into Pasadena’s grid, helping the City meet its goal of delivering 100% carbon-free electricity by 2030.
To reduce community impact, most construction will be conducted overnight. On select days at certain locations, work may extend from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm (noon) the following day. There will be no disruption to power or water service for PWP customers as a result of this project.
To help meet energy demands during construction, PWP will operate the Glenarm Power Plant during off-peak hours. No construction activity related to this project will occur at the plant.
