The City of Glendale addressed recent reports of sewer odors affecting parts of south and central Glendale, including neighborhoods near the LA River corridor and areas downstream of a regional wastewater collection system.

City officials confirmed that the odors are linked to a regional wastewater treatment plant in Los Angeles that serves portions of Glendale. The plant recently brought one of its biological treatment processes back online following a temporary shutdown. According to officials, restarting this process can temporarily produce stronger odors.
Plant operations resumed on December 10, 2025, and city authorities expect conditions to improve over the next several days.
“The City will continue to monitor conditions closely and coordinate with our regional partners to support a prompt return to normal levels of operation,” the statement said.
Residents experiencing odors are encouraged to remain patient as the plant stabilizes operations and to report any ongoing issues to the City for monitoring.
