On October 1st, 2015, San Gabriel hosted its first Dumpling and Beer Festival. What began as a “local twist on Oktoberfest,” showcasing San Gabriel’s restaurants and nearby craft breweries, has grown into the city’s signature annual event, drawing thousands to the Mission District.

This year, in celebration of its 10th anniversary, the festival will be even bigger, featuring more vendors, an expanded beer garden, live entertainment, giveaways, Dumpling and Beer-branded swag, and raffles.
The festival is free and billed as a family-friendly event, with something for everyone, delicious food, games and activities for the kids, and, for a fee, a 21+ beer garden.
The event is made possible through the cooperation of multiple city departments and staff, with a budget of $30,000. Revenue is generated from vendor and food truck fees, as well as the sale of beer garden tickets to the public. This year’s fees and ticket prices have increased to reflect the rising cost of the event. Vendors paid $200-$300 to participate, and beer garden tickets range from $40 to $60, depending on when you buy. So, don’t wait until the day of the event to purchase your tickets!
The Dumpling and Beer Festival also partners with local non-profits, including La Casa de San Gabriel Community Center and the Asian Youth Center (AYC). In exchange for managing the Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) license, the designated non-profit receives proceeds from the sale of beer garden tickets. For the third consecutive year, the City Council has selected AYC as the non-profit partner, with a commitment of $5,000 in compensation.
The San Gabriel Dumpling and Beer Festival continues to grow, attracting both local residents and visitors from across Los Angeles County and beyond.
