Charley Lu, South Pasadena Public Safety Commissioner, has announced his run for South Pasadena City Council, District 2.

A first-generation Asian-American immigrant who has called South Pasadena home for over two decades, Charley Lu has over twenty years of experience developing world-class technology for law enforcement and public safety. He earned Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Ph.D. degrees in Engineering at Tsinghua University, in China, before coming to a technology startup in South Pasadena.
Charley contributed to the startup to a successful IPO, and has actively engaged with South Pasadena’s community. His advocacy for community involvement was exemplified in his successful efforts to resolve a two-decade long-standing historical house construction disagreement. He has demonstrated his ability to foster collaboration and build consensus among diverse stakeholders and his respect for South Pasadena Culture and Heritage Preservation.
Charley held roles in various nonprofit organizations: Chairman of I-Chinese American Political Action Committee, President of Chinese-American Engineers and Scientists Association of Southern California, and has been a staunch advocate for democratic engagement. During his tenure as Public Safety Commissioner for the City of South Pasadena he has launched neighborhood watch programs and supported law enforcement recruitment efforts.
Charley Lu’s vision is to foster a safe, thriving, and diverse small town. His platform focuses on enhancing public safety measures, ensuring fiscal responsibility and sustainability, promoting community engagement, and integrating cutting-edge technology to streamline municipal operations.
The seat representing District 2 is currently occupied by Jack Donnovan. Sheila Rossi is also running for the seat. Election Day is Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
