On April 10, 2024, at about 12:21 am, South Pasadena Police Officers responded to the 400 block of Monterey Road for a report of a male suspect who had entered an unlocked occupied residence and was being detained by the homeowner as a struggle ensued.

Officers arrived and detained twenty-seven-year-old Luis Enrique Garcia of Los Angeles without incident. Garcia was taken to a local area hospital by South Pasadena Fire Paramedics for an injury sustained while being detained by the homeowner.
It was learned Garcia had stolen mail and ransacked an unlocked car before burglarizing the residence where he was caught. Garcia was arrested and released at the hospital on a citation for identity theft, petty theft, and residential burglary due to countywide release policies.
