The Armory Center for the Arts invites the public to experience a thought-provoking and immersive performance, Trampoline House: Memory Drawing Series, by multidisciplinary artist Sichong Xie. This unique durational performance will unfold over two nights, drawing attention to the delicate interplay between memory, labor, and play.

      By News Desk

In Memory Drawing Series, Xie transforms a playground into a stage of temporal disintegration, utilizing the raw materials of construction sites and elements inspired by children’s games. The performance blurs the boundaries between the innocence of play and the gravity of labor. A trampoline serves as the central platform for an evolving artwork, where Xie layers chalk over her grandfather’s original architectural blueprints from the 1960s. As the chalk markings gradually dissolve, they mirror the ephemeral nature of memory—slowly fading, like a once vivid theater of recollections.

The artist’s use of architectural drawings from her grandfather’s collection speaks to the shifting nature of personal and collective histories, invoking themes of loss and the passing of time. The chalk drawing, ever-changing with each movement, symbolizes how memory can fade and transform. The event promises to be an evocative exploration of temporality, where every action within the performance leaves behind traces of an unfinished, fading past.

The event is free and open to the public but RSVP is required to attend.

      About the Artist

Sichong Xie is a Los Angeles-based multidisciplinary artist whose work combines movement, material, and body-based sculpture. She explores identity, politics, and cross-culturalism through her innovative performances and installations, often challenging conventional ideas of space, form, and time. Xie’s works frequently engage with social constructs and seek to re-imagine shared spaces and performative practices.

Xie received her MFA from the California Institute of the Arts and has received numerous accolades, including the 2022 MAP Fund Award and the 2021 Artadia Los Angeles Award. Her installations frequently address themes of memory, temporality, and the tension between natural and industrial materials. In her recent work Memory Structure, Scaffold Series, exhibited at the Wende Museum, Xie explores architectural blueprints created by her grandfather and uses materials such as bamboo scaffolding, embroidery on industrial mesh, and laser-engraved drawings that fade with light exposure. This installation directly engages with ideas of memory, the passage of time, and the convergence of traditional and modern forms.

Xie’s works have been exhibited in major venues, including the USC Pacific Asia Museum, Hauser & Wirth Los Angeles, and the OCAT Art Museum in Xi’An, China, among others. She has also been a fellow at several prestigious artist residencies, such as MacDowell, Yaddo, and the Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture.
