The beloved neighborhood branch, located at 2659 Lincoln Avenue, now boasts a 1,000-square-foot expansion, adding roughly 50% more space to better serve the community. New features include a dedicated children’s area, an upgraded literacy center complete with a classroom and tutoring rooms, as well as a fully accessible design, a new roof, modernized electrical and mechanical systems, and a serene outdoor reading garden.
The $4.5 million renovation was made possible through the support of Altadena residents and the passage of Measure Z in 2020. The investment ensures that the west side library continues to be a cornerstone of education, connection, and inspiration for generations to come.
To mark the reopening, the district will host an official ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday at 10 a.m., featuring remarks from local elected officials, community partners, library leaders, and members of the Bob Lucas family. The ceremony will begin with a prayer and land acknowledgment led by tribal councilwomen from the Gabrielino/Tongva Nation.
Immediately following the ceremony, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, the public is invited to a grand opening celebration filled with music, food, crafts, face painting, and fun for all ages. Guests will also have the opportunity to tour the expanded facility before it reopens for regular hours on Monday, August 18.
