Altadena Town Council Member Nic Arnzen, founder of the Altadena LGBTQ+ Pride Walkabout, will lead the walkabout through central Altadena celebrating the LGTBQ+ community’s pride and unity.

      By News Desk

The walk will start at The Altadena Library, wind through the center of Altadena with three events along the way, culminating at the Altadena Senior Center for the day’s final event.

Each event exists as a stand-alone, so participants are welcome to join for the whole tour or meet us for any individual element they are drawn to.  There will be a shuttle available for those who want to join, but have mobility issues.

Throughout the day, we expect appearances and speeches by Congresswoman Judy Chu, State Senator Anthony Portantino, 5th District Supervisor Kathryn Barger, Assemblyman Chris Holden, Altadena Town Council Chair Veronica Jones, and multiple members of the Altadena Town Council.

      Schedule

      • 10:00 am: Opening Ceremony
Held at the Altadena Library.  Assemblymember Chris Holden will open the day with a celebration and unveiling of a Pride Flag on the east lawn.  Participants will be provided with swag bags and free handheld flags.
      • 11:00 am: Shop and Wave
Shopping event in and around Mariposa Junction and the north Lake Shops from Altadena Drive south to E Calaveras St.  Participants will take part in an incredible celebratory “reverse parade” flag waving event along North Lake.
      • 12:00 pm: Spiritual Exploration
Altadena Community Church hosts a welcoming and inclusive exploration of spirituality and acceptance.  All are welcome, and a wide array of spiritual and meditative practices from throughout Altadena will be represented.
      • 1:00 pm: Free Community Picnic
Free picnic in Triangle Park catered by three local restaurants and celebrating family in every sense of the word.
      • 3:00 – 6:00 pm: Closing Festival
At the Altadena Senior Center.  Congresswoman Judy Chu will highlight the closing of the festival. This event will include guest speakers and dignitaries, performance area, resource tables, Youth Sanctuary, LGBTQ+ Health Fair, an art gallery with an interactive station for all ages, and a classic car and motorcycle show.

Free Pride flags will be available at Webster’s Community Pharmacy throughout May and through the day of the event.
