On Monday, December 14, 2020, Sasha Renée Pérez was sworn in as Mayor of Alhambra.
At age 28, she has become the youngest woman to serve as mayor in San Gabriel Valley history. She swiftly introduced efforts to provide rent and mortgage relief, protections for small businesses, and a vaccine clinic to promote public health.
Immediately after her swearing in, Mayor Pérez presided over a packed city council agenda, where she advocated for Covid-19 relief for renters, homeowners, small businesses, and measures for expanded public health.
Mayor Pérez said:
We have the opportunity to create a new future – one where all people – Black, White, Asian and Latino – feel that they have the opportunity to achieve the American dream, regardless of their income or status. This is all within reach, but it will require us to be innovative, strategic, daring, and imaginative.
Sasha Renée Pérez was born and raised in Alhambra, where her family has lived for over 50 years.
