On Friday, November 22nd, Alhambra Mayor and Senator-Elect Sasha Renée Pérez called an emergency city council meeting to reaffirm Alhambra’s stance as a sanctuary city.
By News Desk
The City of Alhambra proudly reaffirms its status as a Sanctuary City, continuing the city’s commitment to protecting the rights, livelihood, and safety of all its residents, regardless of immigration status.
As part of this reaffirmation, the city renews its pledge to foster and bolster a welcoming environment where individuals can strive to create a better life for themselves and their families regardless of status. The city will continue to observe the guidelines set forth by SB-54 and will not allocate local resources to aid or further ICE deportation operations. This decision aligns with Alhambra’s core values of safety, equity, and respect for human rights.
Mayor and Senator-Elect Sasha Renée Pérez said “This decision comes in response to the incoming presidential administration’s harmful speech about immigration and its stated goal of mass deportations. With the uncertainty of the new administration, the city affirms the need to stand firmly against policies that promote fear or division. Further, we want to make it clear that no person regardless of immigration status should be afraid of reporting crimes they have witnessed or been a victim of from coming forward. Alhambra’s police department and city council are dedicated to ensuring public safety for all its residents”
