The chief of police and members of the Alhambra Police Department honored the life and service of Officer Alec Sanders, who died in the line of duty on November 20, 2025, after a police chase that ended on Valley Blvd. in Alhambra. Sanders was just 28 years old and had been an officer for eight months.

The outdoor vigil lasted 45 minutes, and the street was blocked off for the public. In attendance were approximately 600 community members, fellow police officers, city leaders, and the Sanders family.
Sanders was described by fellow officers as stoic and serious, yet cheeky and deeply dedicated. Since the tragic accident, the department has paused patrols to allow officers time with their families.
After candles were lit for a two-minute moment of silence, a bagpipe player stationed on the building’s roof played “Amazing Grace.”
Amid the American flag at half-staff and two dozen flowered wreaths, Alhambra said a heartfelt goodbye to one of its youngest fallen heroes.
