Saturday: A New Art, Music, Food and Drink Festival in Pasadena

An end-of-summer street party showcasing everything Pasadena has to offer, from good food, drink and lively music to dynamic art and skilled artisans, will take place on Saturday, August 26, 2017.

      By News Desk

Intersection is the brainchild of the Pasadena Playhouse District Association. It is the District’s first festival after it was announced that Make Music Pasadena was scrubbed for lack of funds early this year. It will be a free party on Colorado Boulevard that will require the closure of the famous boulevard between Madison and El Molino. It will span from 4:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

The inaugural event seems to cleverly borrow from popular local Pasadena events, such as ArtNight, Make Music Pasadena, ArtWalk, and The Chalk Festival in order to make its own eclectic fest where local artists and arts organizations team up to create interactive and immersive arts experiences that encourage collaboration between artists and audience.

      What to expect

Event goers will have the chance to explore the theme and methods of Pasadena Museum of California Art’s new exhibits Hollywood in Havana and LA Redux with two group mural projects, contribute on-the-spot to a kinetic installation of ribbons by Side Street Project’s Steve Campos and Betsy Medvedovsky, ‘paint’ in virtual reality with Surrogate Galleries artist Brad Wallace while the audience watches the creations come to life onscreen, and create a sculpture with Armory Center for the Arts or a chalk masterpiece with the Light Bringer Project.

The list of activities continues with a chance for kids to make their mark with a hand print mural led by the Southern California Children’s Museum, a ‘running story’ in the Vroman’s Bookstore courtyard where you can add your own words, plus art workshops where you get to build your own musical instrument, produce your own zine design, a wooden car, or construct a collage.

      Electric Main Stage

Music will have a big part at the planned “block party” festival with sounds of the orchestral influenced pop group Kan Wakan, howling garage rock trio The Dead Ships, alternative bliss-rock four piece Givers & Takers, emerging rhythmic and melodic artists Racquet, and feel good indie-pop artist Susy Sun, plus many more acts that will grace the “Eclectic Main Stage” and entertain the crowd.

      Walking and Photo tours

Pasadena Walking Tours and Lyd & Mo Photography will host walking and photo tours of public art installations in the Playhouse District and giving tips on how to master the perfect shot.

Event goers are encouraged to sample food from Playhouse District restaurants and local food trucks while shopping for unique goods from local artisans.
