A moment in history, conjuring up dreams of the Biblical Exodus, the Great Trek by the Boers in South Africa to escape from the British Empire, Okies fleeing the Grapes of Wrath dust bowl, the French population rushing en masse to escape the German army in 1940. All have their heroic and touching moments.

Ours on returning was the offer of a free meal by Habit Burger and Grill at La Cañada’s Town Center for any family who had been evacuated. Not wanting to cook, we accepted gratefully and will pass on your good deed, sir, to some other family in trouble.
