Marshall Fundamental School presents its spring musical, Guys and Dolls.
By Avery Redfern
Directed by Marshall’s drama and technical theater teacher Caroline Sandrew, the production is a culmination of several months of hard work and an opportunity for students across the school to work together and be involved in the arts.
Guys and Dolls is a theater production, but it is not put on solely by drama students. Featuring a cast of fifty and a crew of over two dozen students, the show incorporates actors and technicians from the drama department, band and orchestra members from the music department, painters and scenic designers from the art department, and dancers and singers from the dance and choir departments. Many of the high school students involved are enrolled in Marshall’s Academy for Creative Industries (ACI), a career pathway program that is designed for those looking to pursue further education or a career in the arts. ACI’s four different artistic tracks: Music, Dance, Theatre, and Visual Arts, all came together to create this production.
The performances will feature a live orchestra, conducted by band director, Anthony Carafone. The singers of Guys and Dolls were taught and directed by choir teacher, Jonathan Gould, and the show was choreographed by dance teacher, Darcy Naganuma.
Family, friends, and lovers of the arts can see the musical April 11, 12, and 13 (Thursday through Saturday), at Marshall Fundamental School at 6:30 pm, or attend a matinee performance on Saturday, April 13, at 1:30 pm.
