As Los Angeles County residents are encouraged to stay home this 4th of July holiday weekend to slow the spread of COVID-19 and ensure the healthcare system is not overwhelmed, alternative options were set in place for a safe celebration at home.
By News Desk
With COVID-19 case counts and hospitalizations on the rise, the County moved swiftly to cancel public fireworks and close all beaches from 12:01 am Friday, July 3, until 5:00 am Monday, July 6. In addition, new Health Orders were set in place to temporarily close indoor operations at restaurants, wineries and tasting rooms, card rooms, zoos, aquariums and museums.
Exercising
If you’re hoping to get in a holiday weekend workout, new County directives require all patrons and employees of fitness facilities to wear cloth face coverings, masks, and gloves at all times while inside the facility.
Rose Bowl and Mt. Wilson Observatory
This Saturday, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm, Mount Wilson Observatory is participating in the Rose Bowl Stadium’s Virtual AmericaFest Celebration.
A solo concert inside the famous 100-inch Telescope dome will honor fallen heroes and front-line workers. Concert series artistic director, Cécilia Tsan, will perform two moving cello solos, by Bach and Pablo Casals, as part of the Rose Bowl broadcast leading up to a fly-over of Pasadena landmarks by vintage aircraft. Festival of Art
Enjoy a stroll through South Pasadena and experience the artwork by South Pasadena’s youth and decorated store fronts on Mission and Fair Oaks. Artwork will be on display until July 10, and on the City’s website.
Grand Park
Grand Park’s annual 4th of July Block Party in downtown L.A. will go on–virtually. You can catch the show on ABC7 Saturday from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The program can be viewed on the County Channel (92 or 94 on most cable systems) and streamed at july4.grandparkla.org from 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm.
Parks
Cities Parks will be open for the July 4th holiday. Residents are reminded to continue to practice social distancing guidelines and wear a mask when enjoying the parks. All playgrounds and gazebos remain closed. Fireworks are not allowed. Celebrate Responsibly.
COVID-19
The pandemic has already claimed the lives of more than 3,400 Los Angeles County residents and infected more than 105,000 people.
Residents are urged to celebrate with members of their own household, avoid large gatherings, and practice the basic rules that keep everyone safer during the pandemic:
- Continue to wear your cloth facial covering.
- Practice physical distancing.
- Wash your hands frequently.
- And don’t touch your face.
