This is the rundown on the 2024 races in our area! (Part 1)

      By Rena Kurlander

      – United States Senate

For the United States’ California Senate seat, there are three top contenders:

      • Congressmember Barbara Lee
      • Congressmember Katie Porter
      • Congressmember Adam Schiff

      – United States House of Representatives, 30th District

The 30th Congressional District includes the Linda Vista neighborhood of Pasadena, and the Los Angeles area communities of Tujunga, Burbank, Glendale, Hollywood, West Hollywood, Edendale, Park La Brea, Hancock Park, and westside Echo Park.

The 30th Congressional District seat is now open because Congressman Schiff is running for the U. S. Senate. These are the candidates:

      • Francisco Arreaga
Senior Policy Advisor for a member of Congress.
      • Joshua Bocanegra
An award-winning serial entrepreneur (according to his LinkedIn profile).
      • Steve Dunwoody
        Educator and environmental advocate.
      • Mike Feuer
        Former Los Angeles City Attorney.
      • Laura Friedman
Member of the State Assembly, District 44.
      • Maebe A. Girl

      • Sarah Idan

      • Nick Melvoin
Los Angeles Board of Education member.
      • Courtney Najera
Raised as an independent thinker (according to her website).
      • Anthony Portantino
        State Senate, District 25.
      • Jirair Ratevosian
        American Policy Advisor.
      • Ben Savage
        Actor.
      • Sepi Shyne
        Mayor, West Hollywood.

      – California State Senate, 25th District

The 25th State Senate District includes the cities and communities of Sunland-Tujunga, Glendale, Pasadena, Altadena, Atwater Village, La Cañada Flintridge, La Crescenta, Montrose, South Pasadena, San Marino, Sierra Madre, Monrovia, Duarte, Glendora, San Dimas, La Verne, Claremont, San Antonio Heights, and Upland, plus most of Burbank.

Because State Senator Anthony Portantino is being termed out, the race for the 25th District is as follows:

      • Elizabeth Wong Ahlers
        Crescenta Valley Town Council.
      • Sandra Armenta
        Rosemead City Council member.
      • Sasha Perez
        Alhambra City Council member.
      • Yvonne Yiu
        Monterey Park City Council member.

      – California State Assembly, 41st District

The 41st Assembly District includes communities from the foothills of Los Angeles County to the high desert of San Bernardino, including Altadena, Bradbury, Claremont, Duarte, Hesperia, La Cañada Flintridge, La Verne, Lytle Creek, Monrovia, Oak Hills, Pasadena, Phelan, Piñon Hills, Rancho Cucamonga, San Antonio Heights, San Dimas, San Pasqual, Sierra Madre, Upland, and Wrightwood.

Because State Assembly member Chris Holden is being termed out, the candidate list for the 41st District Assembly seat is as follows:
