Like many local municipalities, San Gabriel will have several elected positions on the November 8th ballot.

      By News Desk

      The positions are as follows:

      • Three City Council Seats (4-year terms)
      • City Clerk (4-year term)
      • City Treasurer (4-year term)

Four of the five seats on the San Gabriel Unified School District Governing Board are up for election as well as numerous seats on the Board of Directors for County and Municipal Water Districts. These elections were canceled last year due to a lack of candidates.

The San Gabriel City Council is the city’s governing body. With the input of the City Manager and City Attorney, the elected council members establish local ordinances and policies, as well as create the budget needed to operate the city. The mayor is nominated from the current city council members and voted on by the council. The position essentially rotates between the members, so that each one serves as mayor for at least 1 year of their term.

The Elected City Clerk and City Treasurer are both primarily ceremonial positions. The traditional duties of a City Clerk and Treasurer are directed and implemented by City of San Gabriel employees and staff within the City Clerk Department and the Finance Department.
