To commemorate the 72nd anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, and the launching of The Peace Crane Project – Pasadena Chapter, a prayer for peace event plus the folding of origami cranes will commence at the Storrier Stearns Japanese Garden this Saturday.
By Brian Rodriguez
Sue DiCicco, founder and president of The Peace Crane Project, will join The Storrier Stearns Japanese Garden to launch the Pasadena chapter of the project with a mission to promote understanding and peace locally and globally. You will also have the chance to fold origami peace cranes and fill their wings with hope and love for Hiroshima, Nagasaki and beyond.
For this event, The Storrier Stearns Japanese Garden will serve tea and snacks and officially launch the garden as a “Garden for Peace”, beginning a series of programs focused on cultivating peace and global understanding. (They will also celebrate the United Nations International Day of Peace on Thursday, September 21, at the garden with tea and paper crane folding as well).
The Peace Crane Project is an organization that invites school and community groups, individuals and families from all around the world, to fold a peace crane or dove, fill its wings with words and pictures of peace, then trade it through them with another child somewhere in the world. Recently, the The Peace Crane Project has been chosen to speak at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
This event will be free and children are highly encouraged to attend. No reservations are needed.
