Local organizations and community members are teaming up this weekend to tackle fashion waste at “Swap-tober Fest”, a clothing swap event promoting sustainable fashion and reducing textile waste.

Hosted by CALPIRG in collaboration with My Zero Waste Store in Pasadena, along with Matcha Star, Unravel UCLA, Forward UCLA, and Touchdown Thrift Occidental, the swap invites attendees to bring clothing, shoes, bags, and other fashion items they no longer use to exchange with others.
The event will take place Saturday, October 25 at 1:00 pm at My Zero Waste Store, located at 25 S. El Molino Avenue. Metered street parking is available nearby.
Organizers say “Swap-tober Fest” aims to raise awareness of the massive environmental toll of fast fashion. Each year, more than 150 billion garments are produced worldwide—far exceeding consumer demand. An estimated 30% of clothing manufactured is never sold or worn, often ending up in landfills or incinerators.
“Creating these clothes consumes enormous amounts of water, oil, and energy,” organizers note. “We’re throwing away resources before many of these items even have a chance to be worn.”
The swap provides a fun, community-driven alternative to fast fashion—giving old clothes new life and helping participants reduce their environmental footprint.
