While some cities and entire states have moved to ban Pride flags from government properties, the City of Pasadena is proudly celebrating the start of Pride Month with an official flag-raising ceremony at City Hall. Mayor Victor Gordo will raise the flag at 12:30 pm on Monday, June 1.

      By Melanie Hooks

The flag raising marks the start of a month-long series of Pride-related activities throughout Pasadena and the greater San Gabriel Valley. The city is among numerous agencies and organizations sponsoring events across the region.

One of the leading organizers is the San Gabriel Valley LGBTQ Center, whose SGV Pride Tour focuses on honoring and welcoming the region’s Queer and Transgender (QT) communities. According to the organization, approximately 115,000 QT individuals live throughout the San Gabriel Valley.

“At its heart, this Pride Tour is a labor of love from local QT leaders to the estimated 115,000 QT people living in the SGV,” the organization states. The tour seeks to foster community connection, resource sharing, collective transformation, and celebration through a series of Pride events.
