Workshop in Altadena To Aid Seniors With Reverse Mortgages Affected by Eaton Fire

In response to the recent Eaton Fire and its devastating impact on older residents, L.A. County will host a free emergency workshop on Saturday, May 10, to support seniors with reverse mortgages facing property damage or loss.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, May 10, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at MonteCedro Senior Living Community, located at 2212 El Molino Avenue in Altadena. Open to residents aged 62 and older, the session is designed to help affected homeowners understand the financial and legal implications of disaster recovery related to their reverse mortgage agreements.

“We need to ensure older residents in our community know they’re not alone,” said Kathryn Barger, Chair of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. “Recovering from a disaster is hard enough. Understanding reverse mortgages and legal obligations shouldn’t add more stress. That’s why we’re bringing experts together to offer meaningful, hands-on support.”

Aimee Williams, Associate Vice President of Justice for Tenants, Homeowners, and Unhoused Individuals at Bet Tzedek Legal Services, will lead the group session. She will offer guidance on common concerns and practical next steps. Additional support will be provided by representatives from the Federal Housing Administration, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and local legal aid organizations, who will be available for one-on-one consultations.

To ensure accessibility, Spanish and Armenian translation services will be available during the workshop. Attendees are expected to leave with a clearer understanding of their rights and options as they navigate recovery and future housing decisions.
