Who Should Not Win on Nov. 6?

The days grow ever shorter. Leaves on deciduous trees fall to the ground. Seeds on perennial shrubs begin to set.

Fall is here, and that means – it is almost time to vote in the mid-term elections!

Each election cycle, so much is at stake. This time, our participation feels even more urgent.

When we go into the election booth, each check we make is literally a check for our lives. It is a check for the lives of the most vulnerable among us. It is a check for those we love and hold dear.

When you go into the voting booth on November 6, and as you decide where you put your check, remember that hatred, racism, misogyny, and xenophobia should not win on November 6.

      Racism, misogyny,
      and xenophobia
      should not win

Our check in the voting booth is our peaceful, insistent, courageous, and joyful affirmation of our care for the earth. Our care for people. Yes, even our care for ourselves.
Make an abundant, extravagant, fun holiday out of voting. Throw an election-night watch party. Carpool with friends to the polls. Flaunt your “I voted” sticker all day.

The earth begins her gradual turn inward, the natural world slows down and invites us to follow suit. May the check you make at the ballot box ensure that our planet, and her people, emerge from the time of darkness with renewed vigor and life.
