Residents and businesses in the City of Pasadena are advised that City Hall and most municipal administrative offices will close on Friday, July 3, in observance of the Independence Day holiday, while essential public safety and utility services will continue to operate.

While administrative functions pause for the day, emergency response services will remain fully staffed. The Pasadena Police Department and Pasadena Fire Department will continue patrol, fire suppression, paramedic, and jail operations. Officials are urging residents to report suspicious activity and to call 9-1-1 in life-threatening emergencies.
Utility services will remain partially active. The Pasadena Water and Power Department will keep emergency lines open for power and water issues, while its customer call center will be closed for the holiday. Residents may still manage accounts and make payments online or by phone, though non-urgent support will resume after the holiday closure.
City services such as trash, recycling, and yard waste collection will continue on Friday without interruption. However, bulky item pickup will be temporarily suspended. The City’s Service Center will also be closed for in-person assistance, though digital requests submitted online or through the mobile app will continue to be monitored.
Parking regulations will be adjusted for the holiday period, with most metered parking free on July 3, except in areas posted “No Parking.” Enforcement will remain in effect for red zones, overnight restrictions, and fire hydrant access, with increased attention in the Arroyo Seco area near the Rose Bowl.
Transit service will be significantly reduced over the holiday period. Pasadena Transit Route 33 will operate on a Sunday schedule on Saturday, July 4, while all other routes and Dial-A-Ride services will not operate on Independence Day.
Public recreation and civic facilities will follow mixed schedules. All public libraries will be closed on both July 3 and July 4, and community centers will also be closed on July 4. City parks will remain open for public use, with select facilities, including the Honorable John J. Kennedy Pool and the La Pintoresca Park splash pad, operating on limited hours to help residents stay cool during the holiday.
Permit services will be handled primarily online during the closure period, with in-person operations resuming Monday, July 6. Certain permitting functions, including subtrade permits and plan submissions, will remain available digitally.
Officials also reminded residents that all fireworks are illegal within city limits and encouraged reporting violations through police channels or the City Service Center app. City leaders emphasized safety ahead of the holiday, urging the public to celebrate responsibly and comply with local restrictions.
