        What’s Happening for Earth Day/Month in Pasadena and Nearby – Part 1

      Earth Day is around the corner and cities and organizations in the San Gabriel Valley are gearing up for events commemorating the occasion.

      Pasadena area takes the bulk share of preparations and events, starting with Throop Church leading the way with their “30 Days for the Earth“, a month long festivities of environmental and climate literacy.

      Here are all the events that take place leading to Earth Day (as of publication time):

      Thu., March 23

      – 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm: Pasadena Climate Action Plan Open House

      The City of Pasadena is working to prepare a Climate Action Plan (CAP) to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHG), while maintaining or improving the quality of life for residents and businesses. (@ Throop Church, Pasadena).

      Sat., March 25

      – 9:00 am: Pasadena Arbor Day 2017

      The City of Pasadena and Pasadena Beautiful Foundation team up for Arbor Day 2017 celebration (@ adjacent streets of 842 E Howard St., Pasadena).

      – 10:00 am – 1:00 pm: Repair Cafe

      Over 200 guests showed up with things to be repaired at the last Repair Cafe that prompted a registration process (free) for this event. (@ Throop Church, Pasadena).

      – 1:00 pm – 3:30 pm: Private Tour of the Conlan Garden

      South Pasadena Beautiful offers a private tour of the Don and Marilyn Conlan Garden, a hybrid English garden adapted to the southern California climate. (@ Conlan Garden, South Pasadena).

      Thu., April 6

      – 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm: Skip the Straw, Heal the Bay

      An evening of fun, facts, and inspiration and to learn what can be done to stem the flow of plastic pollution in our community (@ Throop Church, Pasadena).

      – 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm: Urban Mindfulness Walk: Beauty Right Under Our Feet

      Magical beauty is all around us even in the midst of the big city, but it’s often difficult to slow down enough in our daily lives to notice these unexpected miracles (@ Throop Church, Pasadena).

      April 11-17

      – “Hope for Earth” Tree

      Come by Throop Garden and place your biodegradable, compost-friendly hope on the beautiful olive tree.

      Thu., April 20

      – 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm: Hidden City Walk: “Many Windows, One Light”

      A walking tour of the historic stained-glass windows in four of downtown Pasadena’s churches. (@ Throop Church, Pasadena).

      – 8:00 pm: BELLA GAIA (Beautiful Earth) – $

      A live multi-media theater experience that communicates—without words—the beauty of the planet both natural and cultural (BELLA), and the interconnectness of all things on Earth (GAIA) (@ Caltech, Pasadena).

      Sat., April 22

      – 7:30 am – 10:30 am: March for Science – Pasadena

      A rally and march for everyone who supports science, organized by researchers (@ Caltech, Pasadena).

      – 8:00 am – 11:00 am: Monterey Park Earth Day Bike Ride

      (@ Monterey Park Bruggemeyer Library Parking Lot).

      – 11:00 am – 2:00 pm: Monterey Park Earth Day Festival 2017

      In celebration of the Earth Day in Monterey Park (@ Barnes Park, Monterey Park).

      Pasadena eARTh Festival 2017

      – 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm: Pasadena eARTh Festival

      Celebrate earth through art, music, puppetry, poetry, climate talks and more! The eARTh Festival (a play on the words art and earth) promises to be a family-friendly indoor/outdoor event at Throop Hall, spanning through the Learning Garden, and on the gracious Throop patio (@ Throop Church, Pasadena).
