A free virtual event hosted by Caltech Alumni Relations will soon give the public a closer look at what the legendary physicist actually accomplished during his time in the San Gabriel Valley.
The online program, “Einstein: Beyond the Myth,” will take place Wednesday, April 15, from 12:00 pm to 1:15 pm, offering an in-depth exploration of Einstein’s visits to Caltech in 1931 and 1933. The discussion will highlight his scientific collaborations during the formative years of modern cosmology and examine the political pressures that ultimately influenced his decision not to return to Germany.
Organizers say the event aims to connect Caltech’s historical ties to Einstein with broader contemporary questions about the responsibilities of scientists during periods of global uncertainty.
The conversation will feature Diana L. Kormos-Buchwald, the Robert M. Abbey Professor of History and Director of the Einstein Papers Project, in dialogue with Patt Morrison, Los Angeles Times columnist and author. The program will include a moderated discussion followed by an audience Q&A.
Those interested in attending are encouraged to register by Friday, April 10.
