Meeting May 26 at City Hall, the council also recognized May as Older Americans Month and honored Dane Lenton as Sierra Madre’s Older American of the Year. Grant awards from the Sierra Madre Civic Club, an independent philanthropic organization, followed. Grant funds are not allocated nor distributed from city fund accounts.
Much of the evening’s business moved through the consent calendar, where the council approved 12 items in a single roll-call vote.
One of the most consequential actions was approval of Resolution No. 26-38, allocating $400,000 from the Water Fund Reserve for underground infrastructure upgrades through an agreement with Toll West Coast, LLC.
Recreation projects also received a substantial investment. Under Resolution No. 26-46, the council approved a $324,050 construction contract with Ultimate Pool Remodeling, Inc. to repair the pool deck and replaster the pools at the Sierra Madre Aquatic Center in Sierra Vista Park. The project also required an additional $174,050 appropriation from the General Fund Reserve.
On the services front, the council approved a five-year, $364,488 agreement with the Pasadena Humane Society for animal shelter and animal control services. Officials also authorized a $111,400 contract with California Consulting, Inc. for grant research, writing, and administration services intended to help secure outside funding opportunities.
The council also adopted two ordinances on second reading. Ordinance No. 1493 updates the city’s house and building numbering requirements, while Ordinance No. 1494 revises zoning code definitions and accessory dwelling unit regulations to align with recent state housing laws.
The council adjourned with plans to reconvene for special budget meetings on May 27 and May 28, after advancing a slate of projects aimed at maintaining city infrastructure, improving public amenities, and updating local regulations.
