5 Android-based apps have been found mining bitcoin virtual currency from smartphones without the user’s knowledge.
How they worked?
♦ While you perform other tasks on your device, the apps do intricate bitcoin mining calculations in the background, while draining your battery power faster than normal.
♦ They tricked users into downloading them by advertising themselves as wallpaper apps. Users thought they were getting an app with cool smartphone background images, but they were getting an app that secretly were malware used the phone to mine bitcoin.
The apps are:
Beating Heart Live Wallpaper
- Mens Club Live Wallpaper
- Epic Smoke Live Wallpaper
- Urban Pulse Live Wallpaper
- Anime Girls Live Wallpaper.
There’s more
♦ Even though the mining apps were removed from the Google Play store immediately after they were discovered, that’s not enough.
What to do?
♦ If you have installed these apps prior to be taken off by Google Play remove them from your phone IMMEDIATELY.
