As America marks its 250th anniversary, Pasadena’s own history is taking center stage through a new virtual exhibition exploring how one city’s story reflects the nation’s evolution.

Pasadena in Pictures: Celebrating America’s 250th Anniversary brings together 250 historic photographs from the collections of the Pasadena Public Library, Pasadena Museum of History, and Pasadena City College. Available online, the exhibition invites visitors to explore the people, places, and moments that have shaped the Crown City over the years.
Rather than presenting a strictly chronological history, the exhibition is organized around themes that connect Pasadena’s past to broader chapters in the American experience. Photographs are grouped into categories including Celebration, Conflict, Education, Presidential Visits, Science, Slices of American Life, Social Movements, and Sports, offering a broad look at the city’s evolution and its place in the nation’s history.
Accompanied by historical captions, the photographs invite visitors to travel through time, illustrating how Pasadena has remained both a distinctly local community and a reflection of the larger American story.
The exhibition is the latest project of the Pasadena Digital History Collaboration (PDHC), a partnership established in 2010 to make historical collections from local institutions accessible online. The collaboration includes the Pasadena Public Library, Pasadena City College, Pasadena Museum of History, and The Huntington Library, bringing together archival resources that preserve and share the city’s rich heritage with audiences around the world.
