The Docent Council of the USC Pacific Asia Museum in Pasadena is recruiting a new class of volunteer docents.
By News Desk
Volunteer docents will be trained to guide student groups in interactive explorations of the museum’s treasures. They will also learn how to do virtual learning tours for student groups who cannot come to the museum. Techniques for touring contemporary art exhibitions at the museum will be included in the training. The training for new volunteer docents will be on Tuesdays, beginning in January 2023 and continuing for 10-12 weeks.
The museum is looking for volunteers who are curious about Asian art and culture (no prior knowledge/experience required) and with good communication skills, an enthusiasm for leading discussions and time to lead tours. Applications to become a volunteer docent are available on the museum’s website.
Kathy Wales, a member of the recruiting committee for new volunteer docents, said:
Being a docent at the USC Pacific Asia Museum is a wonderful volunteer opportunity. I enjoy the rewards of engaging with visitors about the art and culture of Asia and the Pacific Islands. Plus, it enables me to participate in activities for docents including lectures by experts, field trips to other museums and social events.
