As Pasadena’s Rose Bowl Approaches 100, It’s Time to Update!

Rose Bowl Stadium has undergone multiple renovations and upgrades in its nearly 100 year history, the most recent being the technology and other upgrades over the decade ending in 2016.

Access, parking and programming are all issues that will be addressed by the Los Angeles architecture firm Jerde; Jerde’s principal Jon Jerde was the visionary for the 130 venues for the games of the 1984 Olympics. Working with the Rose Bowl Operating Company, Jerde will focus on renovations that will serve the stadium, the community and a new generation of users as well as recognizing competition with the new NFL stadium in Hollywood Park and other renovated nearby facilities.

Rose Bowl Stadium is a National Historic Landmark and a California Historic Civil Engineering Landmark. It is primarily a college football venue, a host to the annual Rose Bowl Game and home to UCLA Bruins football. Designed by architect Myron Hunt in 1921, the stadium was built in the heart of the Arroyo Seco, and hosted its first “Rose Bowl” game in 1923.
