Update on Pasadena Unified Layoffs

Interim Superintendent Elizabeth Blanco updated the Pasadena Unified Board of Education in a memo sent to board members on Friday April 19th.

In the memo, Interim Superintendent Blanco detailed the reductions in the number of layoffs that the board approved in recent months. These layoffs were associated with the closing of 176 positions as approved by the board, the savings from which was the bulk of a county-required fiscal stabilization plan for the district.

In the memo, Dr. Blanco refers to the layoff resolutions previously approved by the board. She reminded the board that 80, about 45%, of the 176 positions being eliminated were vacant. She also notes that the number of final layoff notices that will be issued to employees in occupied positions will be less than the number authorized as employees have been reassigned to other positions in the district or accepted positions outside of the district.

Currently, 15 certificated employees and 34 classified employees will be laid off. The memo does not mention if any of the administrative staff currently occupying closed positions will be laid off, were reassigned to other positions in the district, or accepted positions outside of the district.
