Pasadena Village will host a pair of LGBTQ+-friendly community events next weekend, offering queer older adults and their allies opportunities to connect through conversation, film, and shared experiences.

      By Melanie Hooks

The weekend begins with LGBTQ+ Movie and Mocktail Night: Will & Harper on Friday, Aug. 14, from 4:30-6:30 pm at Flintridge Center, Suite 117, 236 W. Mountain St., Pasadena. The free event invites attendees to enjoy mocktails while watching the acclaimed 2024 documentary Will & Harper.

The film follows actor Will Ferrell and his longtime friend Harper Steele on a 17-day road trip across the United States as they reconnect after Steele’s gender transition and navigate her new life as a transgender woman. The documentary has received dozens of award nominations and wins, including a 2025 Peabody Award, and has become a catalyst for intergenerational conversations about gender transition. Allies are welcome to attend. (Click for information).

The following morning, Saturday, Aug. 15, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, Pasadena Village and the SGV LGBTQ Center will host a Senior Coffee Chat at Flintridge Center, Suite 115, 236 W. Mountain St., Pasadena. The free gathering is open to adults ages 50 and older and is designed to foster community and connection among LGBTQ+ seniors and their peers. (Register online here).
