Los Angeles County health officials are investigating a confirmed case of measles in a traveler who was infectious while passing through several locations in the region on June 17 and 18, 2026.

      By News desk

This is the seventh measles case reported in the county this year.

      Key Exposure Locations

Public Health reports that individuals may have been exposed at the following sites:

      • Hollywood Burbank Airport Gate A4 — June 17, 2026, from 8:45 to 9:45 am. The traveler arrived that morning on Southwest Airlines Flight 4245.
      • Thrifty Rental Car Service, 2627 N Hollywood Way
        • June 17, 2026, from 9:20 to 10:20 am.
        • June 18, 2026, from 10:25 to 11:25 am.

Passengers seated near the infected traveler will be contacted by local health departments in coordination with the CDC.

      Monitoring Period

People who were at these locations during the listed times may develop measles 7 to 21 days after exposure.

      • For exposures on June 17, monitor for symptoms until July 8, 2026.
      • For exposures on June 18, monitor until July 9, 2026.

Anyone who remains symptom‑free after 21 days is no longer considered at risk.

      Public Health Guidance

Officials urge residents to confirm their MMR vaccination status, especially before traveling or attending crowded summer events, including those associated with upcoming World Cup activities.

Dr. Muntu Davis, Los Angeles County Health Officer, emphasized that the MMR vaccine remains the safest and most reliable protection against measles, noting the virus’s ability to spread easily and cause severe complications such as pneumonia and brain swelling.

      Public Health recommends that residents:

      • Check immunization records before domestic or international travel.
      • Notify a healthcare provider promptly if exposed and at higher risk (pregnant individuals, infants under 12 months, immunocompromised people, or those unvaccinated).
      • Watch for symptoms such as fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, or rash. Anyone with symptoms should stay home and call a healthcare provider before visiting a medical facility.

      About Measles

Measles spreads through the air when an infected person breathes, talks, coughs, or sneezes. The virus can linger in the air or on surfaces for hours. People are contagious from four days before the rash appears until four days after.

      Common symptoms include:

      • Fever above 101°F
      • Cough
      • Runny nose
      • Red, watery eyes
      • Rash that begins on the face and spreads downward
