Recently the Pasadena Lawn Bowling Club hosted the 2024 Tournament of Roses Royal Court.
By Cheryl Cabot
In one of their first public appearances, the young women of the Rose Parade Royal Court, along with their parents and dozens of Tournament of Roses representatives, got a short lesson in lawn bowling, after which they had a fun competition.
The Royal visitors were quick to pick up the game, which has been played on the same greens near the historic Neff Clubhouse for the past 104 years. Unfortunately, the guests were not able to see the inside of the historic building, the first of Neff’s California Style architecture. The building has been red-tagged after a tree crashed into the clubhouse on September 15, 2022. They are currently waiting for the City to fund the building repairs and retrofit.
The Club will host their own lawn bowling “Rose Lawn Bowl”on Dec. 31, with visitors from both Rose Bowl teams pitted against each other in a friendly competition, prior to the big game.
