The curtains are closing on the Laemmle Playhouse 7.
By Topher Mathers
After 20 plus years as a fixture of the Playhouse Village (formerly Playhouse District), Laemmle Playhouse 7 is leaving Pasadena. If you are a fan of independent, foreign, or art house cinema, you have probably seen a movie at the Playhouse 7.
The owner of Laemmle, Greg Laemmle is an avid cyclist. For years, the company has organized the annual bike ride, the “Tour de Laemmle,” in which the riders would visit each of the Laemmle theaters throughout the greater LA region. The 2018 edition started in Santa Monica, visited nine theaters including the Playhouse 7 and covered 138 miles.
As a farewell tribute to Pasadena’s Playhouse 7 location, Greg Laemmle and the Laemmle Team are organizing another group ride. The “Farewell Ride to the Playhouse 7” will depart Union Station on Sunday June 26, 2022 at 9:00 am. The ride will head north towards the Arroyo Seco bike path and roll through Pasadena, where the riders will stop at the Playhouse 7 for one last time. The ride will go on from there down into the Rose Bowl, up into the hills near Art Center and descend Chevy Chase into Glendale where the riders will find their way to the LA River. The ride will end at the Highland Park Brewery. If you are interested in joining the ride, the even details can be found at the Event Link.
