One of Pasadena’s most prestigious, and improbably free, concert traditions will close out its season on Saturday, June 6, with a jazz performance by the Friends of Music at Pasadena Presbyterian Church featuring the Tina Raymond Trio at 7:30 pm at Pasadena Presbyterian Church.

      By Melanie Hooks

Acclaimed drummer, composer and educator Tina Raymond will be joined by guitarist Andrew Renfroe and bassist Richard Lloyd Giddens for the season finale performance.

The evening’s program will feature music composed by Raymond, including selections from her 2023 album Divinations, along with possible new material. Additional information is available through the Friends of Music website.

A reception will follow the performance.

Raymond serves as Director of Jazz Studies at California State University, Northridge and received the DownBeat Educator Achievement Award in 2020. She is also president-elect of the California Alliance for Jazz. Her teaching career has included positions at Los Angeles City College, the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz, the University of Michigan, Bard College and Idyllwild Arts Academy.

She also co-leads the Esthesis Quartet alongside Dawn Clement, Elsa Nilsson and Emma Dayhuff.

In addition to leading her own projects, Raymond has performed with musicians including Bobby Bradford, Eric Revis, Rachel Eckroth, Vinny Golia and Billy Mohler. Her recent recordings include Divinations, Time Zones, Boom Session Volume III, Trio Subliminal 2: Cinema Infernale and Stealin’ Home.

Guests attending the concert are advised to review posted parking signs and meter kiosk regulations around the church campus due to recently implemented parking limitations in the area.
